Product selection

Your fact find will assist with indicating which products (if any) are the most appropriate for your client’s needs. It should provide you with information on your client’s investment needs and objectives as well as their level of investment knowledge.

Because your client may have different investment timescales for different types of investment, their attitude to risk may differ from one product to another. For example, clients investing for retirement generally invest with a much longer view than clients saving for a wedding in a few years’ time. Depending on the product chosen, your clients can choose to hold a wide range of investments.

The investment solutions available for our products are predominantly categorised into two core elements: GlobalSelect and SelfSelect. Which route is suitable for your client depends on a number of factors such as their attitude to risk or need for involvement.

  • Our GlobalSelect solutions offer a selection of tools and services that help you and your clients to build and manage portfolios. You can build a portfolio from our Researched Range of funds or choose to outsource the day-to-day management of portfolios by selecting one of our packaged multi-asset funds, Managed Solutions funds or, for an even more bespoke service, outsource all investment management by selecting Discretionary Asset Manager, such as Quilter Cheviot.
  • Our SelfSelect fund range gives you access to hundreds of funds from a wide range of leading fund groups, including Fidelity, Invesco, BlackRock, HSBC, Franklin Templeton, Henderson, Aberdeen, Schroders and many more, which you can use to build a tailored portfolio. While we carry out a limited amount of ‘pre-vetting’ on the funds in our SelfSelect range, we do not continue to monitor them once they have been selected.

If your client is investing via our Portfolio Bonds, then, in addition to our GlobalSelect and SelfSelect offerings, they have the option to access a wider investment range known as ‘Open Architecture’. Open Architecture offers clients the freedom to invest in a much wider range of investment assets from numerous markets.

Together with your client, you will need to decide on the most appropriate mix of investments to suit their investment horizon and attitude to risk. And if you decide to outsource the investment management, you need to decide who is best placed to offer this service to you and your client.
